Fall asleep to Spruce Creek rushing past your window and wake up to pine-scented mountain air — all just 3 miles from Breckenridge's Main Street. The Velvet Moose is a cozy, whimsical creekfront cabin: a stone fireplace glows below vaulted ceilings, a loft tucks two more beds under the rafters, and a private creekside bench waits for your morning coffee. Ski days end and slow, creekside mornings begin right here — moose sightings included.

ABOUT THIS SPACE

The Velvet Moose is a mid-range mountain cabin that's been fully refreshed without losing its rustic Colorado charm — new lighting, new appliances, updated electrical and HVAC with air conditioning, and a redesigned dining and living area throughout.

The open-concept living room is the heart of the cabin: a stone fireplace under soaring vaulted ceilings, warm wood panels on the walls, and stylish seating for unwinding after a day on the mountain. Tucked in the corner is a favorite guest spot — a cozy desk nook beneath a moose painting and a big round clock, with high-speed WiFi that makes it a legitimate work-from-cabin setup when you need one.

The rustic dining space seats the whole group under exposed wood beams — pull up a chair for pancakes before skiing or a slow dinner after. Just steps away, the kitchen has been modernized with new appliances, ample counter space, cooking basics, and a Keurig that brews both grounds and K-Cups.

Down the hall, two bedrooms give you real privacy: one dressed in soft premium linens with a starry accent wall, the other positioned to catch a view of 13,800-foot Redd Mountain right out the front window, plus the sound of Spruce Creek drifting through the glass April through November. The full bathroom between them has been completely modernized with a new vanity, fixtures, flooring, and tub surround.

Climb the stairs to the charming loft, where vaulted ceilings and rustic wood beams frame two additional beds — the spot the kids claim first, and the reason this cabin comfortably sleeps 6.

Outside is where The Velvet Moose earns its name. Step off the deck and you're at Spruce Creek itself — a quiet bench for listening to the water, an outdoor dining table beneath towering pines, and a gas grill for easy cookouts. Gear storage is provided right on site for skis, snowboards, and fishing equipment. Locals still call this "the red ski cabin," and once you've watched a moose amble through the yard, you'll understand why.

WHO THIS HOME IS BEST FOR

Couples who want quiet creekside evenings after big mountain days, without sacrificing a quick drive to the lifts.

Families with kids who will fight over who gets the loft — two extra beds up under the beams keep everyone together.

Remote workers who need a real getaway but can't fully unplug — the desk nook and high-speed WiFi mean a morning of emails before the trails.

Pet owners — dogs are welcome, and there's nothing like a creekside walk with your dog before dinner.

Anglers and outdoor lovers who want ski, snowboard, and fishing gear storage on site, plus direct access to Spruce Creek.

GUEST ACCESS

Check yourself in on your own schedule with the smart lock at the private entrance — no key exchange, no waiting around. Once inside, you have full run of the cabin: both bedrooms, the loft, living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom, and the washer/dryer. Outdoors, the deck and creekside area are yours any time of day. Guests may also inquire about concierge services for activity planning and local recommendations.

PARKING

Free parking is available directly on the property, with room for multiple vehicles in the driveway — no permits, apps, or street parking required. Ski, snowboard, and fishing gear storage is on site, so you're not loading equipment through the cabin every day or hauling it up and down condo steps. Pull in, grab your gear, and you're ready to go.

HOUSE RULES

Check-in is at 4:00 PM and checkout at 10:00 AM — reach out if you need flexibility. Maximum occupancy is 6 guests. The cabin is equipped with smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Dogs are welcome — several guests have brought their dogs along for creekside walks.

As part of booking, you'll e-sign a short Reservation Agreement (required by our short-term-rental insurance provider) and a $300 credit-card damage-deposit hold is placed about two days before arrival. This is a hold, not a charge, and it's released within a few days of departure pending a quick cleaning review. We want you to relax and enjoy The Velvet Moose, no surprises.

About the Owner

We are longtime Breckenridge fans, having spent our honeymoon here over 30 years ago. Although we grew up in the Midwest, Colorado stole our hearts many years ago. Spending time in the mountains never gets old for us! We purchased this home and decided immediately that it had to be shared with friends and family... and The Velvet Moose was born. Why the Velvet Moose? The day we toured the property for the first time, we saw 9 moose on and around the property! Their quirky, graceful stature immediately captured the theme we wanted the house to evoke. Our hope is that you love it here as much as we do and that you return often with family and friends to create lasting memories.
